Iittala Tall Ice Effect Vase signed ‘TS’ |

This is an unusual example of a Finnish textured glass vase, probably dating to the 1960s.
This vase is in the form of two cylinders fused together. The upper ‘cylinder’ has a larger diameter than the lower. The lower portion flares out to form a wide foot, which is polished out in the centre. The upper flares out to form an everted rim. The whole has a random textured effect, clearly inspired by the Scandinavian landscape.
The base is signed on the edge with the monogram ‘TS’, which is the signature of the designer Timo Sarpeneva. Sarpeneva worked for Iittala from 1950 to 1962, when he opened his own design studio. Subsequently he worked for both Rosenthal and Venini.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
