This is an excellent example of a high quality Swedish glass vase.
Strömbergshyttan of Hovmantorp, Småland, Sweden, began production in 1933 and was acquired by Orrefors in 1979. During its history it has employed many famous Scandinavian designers.
The thick walled vase has a slight blue tinge, and is square in section, tapering down towards the base. The corners are rounded off. At the rim the inside and outside edges are slightly bevelled.
There is an original silver sticker on the side of the base, which reads ‘Strömbergshyttan SWEDEN’. In addition, the base is polished flat and is hand engraved with the word ‘Strömbergshyttan’ and the code ‘B 1002’. The letter corresponds to the type of vessel – in this case, ‘B’ is a vase. Consecutive numbers were assigned to designs. Design number B974, for example, was produced in 1962, so this vase dates to shortly after this.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
