Here we have a fine example of a bidriware vase made in Bidar, India for the 5th Royal Irish Lancers. This a commemorative piece and is composed of an alloy of zinc and copper inlaid with thin sheets of pure silver. The vase is a commemorative piece and as well as the regimental crest (Victoria Crown and Quis Separabit) on the reverse there is a monogram 'RM' possibly for Lt-Colonel W. Dunham Massey who was widely known as Redan Massey and famously led the regment until 1874. (Prior to the assignment to India the regiment was disbanded and many dragoons emigrated to America and France as skilled cavalrymen) . This is a rare vase, the intricate surface work of copper and silver is beautifully worked and has a wonderful patina - no polishing required, just a gentle rub with the palms of the hands.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: 23cm (9 inches) high
