19th century oil on panel, "Cottages nr Stratford on Avon" signed and dated Clifford Montague 1892.
Clifford Montague was born in 1858 in Tilehurst, Birkshire, England. He studied at the London School of Art and received commissions to paint as a landscape artist in Britain, Ireland, France and the Netherlands. He exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists Birmingham, the Walker Gallery Liverpool, the Royal Hibernian Academy , and the Royal Scottish Academy.
Montague lived in Devon before moving to Wales in 1913. He died in Wales in June 1917 at the age of 59.
