A very rare print after Sir Edward Burne-Jones ' Green Summer ' published c.1905. In excellent condition housed in the original Arts and Crafts English Oak frame. This group of eight, one reading and seven listening was painted in the early years of Sir Edward Burne-Jone's career, before the world in general had had the opportunity of seeing his work. The sentiment is of that gentle and tranquil character which embodies the idealism of life. Here is an excerpt of verse that inspired the painting...' "There is sweet music here that softer falls Than petals from blown roses on the grass". On the margin of the running stream, with thick wood of slender-stemmed trees on the opposite bank, the peacefulness of life is drawn around this evidently prearranged gathering; melodiously falls the reading from the illuminated book and with perfect understanding and accord are the words welcomed '.
