ALSPHONSE by George Ward is illustrated by John Ward known for his supbert book illustrations in particular for Laurie Lee's CIDER WITH ROSIE. His oil portraits hang in the RA. The story of ALSPHONE waswritten by John Ward's son George, who was a pupil at Kings School, Canterbury. Alphonse was a magician and wonder-worker who wandered around the world during the summers with his wife Sophie, son Jack and donkey Carl, surprising people and making them happy. A book of elegance and beauty in a truly traditional style. First edition, jacket protected and not price clipped.
