A stunning Mintons plate with an ivory glaze, decorated with raised gilding of flower wreaths, urns, acanthus and ribbon and foliate pendant garlands. Inset to the rim are three ribbon and wreath framed
Pāte-sur-Pāte cameos, each signed by Alboin Birks. Birks, who worked at the Minton works all his life, was, along with Solon, the most celebrated English worker of the Pāte-sur-Pāte technique, working on prestige
pieces inclusing the Jubilee Vase for Queen Victoria. This original technique is one of the most distinctive of the Victorian ceramic arts and is entirely associated and synonymous with Minton. An elaborate and highly complex technique, works of this type were always among the most expensive and treasured internationally and it is unsurprising that this plate was retailed by Tiffanys of New York. The plate, with gilded Tiffanys
New York mark, has the quality gilded footrim and gilded H2575, impressed date code.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: 10.5" diameter.
