A stunning acquisition: an important Royal Worcester plate direct from the Royal Worcester Work's own Pattern room, the Presentation service from the Brigade of Guards, made for the marriage of Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth 11) to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.
The plate is decorated in etched 'acid gold' on a butter-cream ivory ground and bears the regimental badge of the Scots Guards, with their motto 'Nemo Me Impune Lacessit' (No one assails me with impunity). The plate has the gilded footrim, always the marker of the highest quality pieces, and is fully marked, gilded factory mark and date coded, impressed marks, and still bears its original provenance labels. Provenance: from the Pattern Room at Royal Worcester, de-accessioned in 2002. These are factory samples from the important wedding service presented by the Brigade of Guards to Elizabeth and Philip to commemorate the royal marriage. Produced in 1947 during a period of post-war austerity, the Utility regulations were listed by permission so that this special set could be supplied to the royal household.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: 10.75" (27.5cm) diameter.
