This is a stunning and highly unusual decorative bowl, probably dating to the turn of the 19th to the 20th century.
The bowl is made in porcelain and glazed inside and out with a mottled blue glaze. The outer rim of the bowl and the foot are decorated with two circumferential gilded lines. The interior of the bowl has a chequered gold band at the rim and a large dragon in the centre surrounded by five further dragons on the interior. The exterior of the bowl has six further dragons similar to those on the interior. The base is unglazed and has a transfer printed Portland Vase logo and the words ‘WEDGWOOD ENGLAND’. Below this are printed in red ‘MANUFACTURED FOR JAMES POWELL & SONS WHITEFRIARS GLASSWORKS E. C. AND 11 CONDUIT STREET W. LONDON’. On the edge of the bowl is hand painted in black with the number ‘24600’.
