An unusual 19th century French carved and turned rare Palisander wood and Boxwood chess set. The kings with fine ornamental lathe work beading to their tops, Queens with ball finals, Bishops with mitres, Knights with fine carved horses heads, Rooks as castellated round towers and pawns with small ball finals.
All the pieces standing on slender columns.
Comes in period sycamore wood lift up top storage box. Kings 4 inches ( 10 cm.) high.
