We are really pleased to have aquired a collection from the Allied POW Camp for German Prisoners at Mailley Camp in France. These were purchased in auction and by negotiation with the estate of the camp officer who brought these items to America after World War 2. There are three sets and a board, and incredibly a hand made tool kit, that was used to make the sets and the board. A stunning chess board, A small travelling set in custom built metal case. A medium sized set based on the French Regence Style in its own box made from shells. A hand carved and painted wooden set in a box. An extraordinary achievement in the conditions that prevailed. A tool kit fully hand fashioned. This is just mouthwatering in its historical content. A 40 piece tool kit made from wood and metal and nothing else. We will split the items if necessary but in the first instance we would like to give a collector or an institution the chance to buy all the items.
