A rare early 19th century, Meiji Period, exceptionally high quality Japanese lacquered chaire and cover cover decorated all over with inlaid brass and pewter floral vines in the manner of Cloisonne. . The interior is gilt lined. A Tea Chaire, like a caddy, is one of the neccessary basic tool for the tea ceremony. There are 2 types of tea caddy. One is Natsume and another is Chaire. The Natsume is for thin tea powder and the Chaire is for thick tea. The Natsume is made of plastic, artificial wood or natural wood sometimes with lacquered pictures. The Chaire is made of potter. Some items are so beautiful and fashionable. It is presumed that they were used not only as a tea tool but their fashion item to show to their guets.
