A Chinese Export Silver novelty salt and pepper cruet modelled as a coolie carrying two baskets on a pole over his shoulder - a very traditional sight in China at the time this was made. The piece is marked under the base with the mark of Wang Hing, a well-known Chinese retailer and silversmith in Hong Kong from the latter part of the 19th Century into the very early 20th Century.
