A mid Victorian 18 carat gold pocket watch with an 'up and down' dial. This shows the time elapsed since the watch was fully wound. The case is very good, the engine turning on the rear has been polished smooth at the edges, there is a central shield & garter motif engraved with the letters M&W. There is a small dent on the rear cover at the top left hand edge. The rear cover springs open when the button on the stem is pressed, it has the Chester 18ct gold mark for 1867 & the casemakers mark J&JH. The inner rear cover has 2 keyholes, 1 for winding (anti-clockwise) & the other for setting the hands, it has the same hallmark & makers mark as the outer cover & also has the serial number 35204. The glass is good, some light surface scratches. The dial is excellent with no hairlines or chips. The fusee movement is marked J Maguire & Company. 59 Castle St. Belfast. 35204. Running well & keeping good time.

Dimensions: 2" (50mm) diameter excluding the stem.
