A very rare First World War hunter cased wristwatch, the front cover depicting General Joffre, the Allied commander 1914-16. Swiss made for the French market. The base metal case has a lift up hinged front cover to protect the glass & dial when in rough use. The cover is embossed with a picture of the General & the words J.J.C. JOFFRE GENERALISSIME DES ARMEES FRANCAISES 1914. The hinged rear is plain with no engravings, it has some small dents which are not visible when the watch is being worn. The enamel dial has some hairlines & is covered with a bezel & glass. The Swiss lever movement is running well & keeping good time for a wristwatch of this era & nearly 100 years old. A rare & important piece of WW1 French military history.

Dimensions: 1,5/16" (34mm) excluding winding crown & strap lugs.
