A First World War German Officer's wrist pocket watch. The watch is Swiss made for the German market. The .800 silver case is in excellent condition, it is gold plated around the bezel & the back edge. Inside the back cover there are German silver marks & also engraved with the name August Röhe. Probably the original owner. The dust cover is marked Cylinder 6 Steine. The 2 tone dial has an inner 24 hour ring. The cylinder movement is running well & keeping time to within about 4 minutes per day. The hands are pin set, to move the hands do not pull out the winding crown, instead, push in the pin on the edge at 1 & turn the winding crown. The leather strap is in good usable condition. Before the war men tended to wear pocket watches on chains, but as the war progressed to the trenches it was found to be more convenient to use a wristwatch, special wrist straps were produced which allowed the pocket watch to be worn on the wrist, so that you didn't need to buy an expensive wristwatch when you already owned a pocket watch.
Condition: Very Good
Dimensions: 1,11/16" (43mm) diameter excluding winding stem.
