WW1 hunting cased men's silver wristwatch. |
|
Dateline: Dated 1917 |
Item# 36556 |

|
A First World War Swiss made men's hunting cased wristwatch in very good condition. The silver case has the London import mark for 1917 & the case makers mark GS The front cover springs open when the button below 6 is pressed, the rear cover is screw on. There are no personal engravings or initials. The enamelled dial is very good, there is a very faint hairline running from the sub' second dial to near 2 (only really noticeable under magnification). The lever movement is marked SWISS MADE. Running well & keeping good time for this type and age of wristwatch (gaining about 4-5 minutes per day). Hunter & half hunter cases were designed to protect the dial from knocks. More commonly seen in pocket watches, these are quite rare in wristwatches (this is a genuine wristwatch & not a converted pocket watch). Probably bought privately for use in military service, this would most likely have been worn by an officer as watches of this quality would have been very expensive.
Condition: Very Good
Dimensions: 1,5/16" (34mm) diameter excluding the crown & lugs.
