WW1 Men's silver Borgel cased Officer's wristwatch |

A First World War Swiss made Borgel cased men's silver wristwatch . This is the type of watch bought by Officers for action on the front line as very few War Department watches were issued, Officers were expected to supply there own. The heavy gauge silver case has a milled bezel & smooth body with no engravings. The inside of the case has the London silver import hallmark for 1918, the case makers mark A.G.R & the Borgel key symbol with the initials FB. The slightly domed glass is excellent,. The enamel dial is very good, there is a very faint hairline near 4 (hardly noticable without a magnifying glass) the darker areas on the picture are reflections. The Borgel case was an early form of dust and damp proofing, to access the movement, the spring loaded winding crown is pulled & held out & the bezel, glass, dial & movement are screwed out as a single unit. The lever movement is marked SWISS MADE it is running well & keeping good time. The hands are pin set, to move the hands, push in the pin on the edge at 4 & turn the crown.
