A Doxa Swiss Made watch supplied to Royal Flying Corps pilots in the first world war. They would have been fitted into holders in the cockpit during flight. (The RFC was the predecessor to the RAF). The heavy duty case is excellent, just a tiny pinhead sized ding on the rear cover. The front & rear covers are snap-on, both close firmly & evenly, there is also a hinged rear inner dustcover. The rear cover has the Air Ministry mark of an A over an arrow, inside there is the Doxa stamp. The thick bevelled glass has some tiny surface scratches. The black enamelled dial is excellent, the numbers have slightly faded. The dial is marked 30 HOUR NON LUMINOUS MARK V B.E.2154 (There were luminous versions, but it was found that the constant vibration of the aeroplane caused the paint to flake & get into the movement). The movement is marked DOXA SWISS MADE. It is running well & keeping good time. A rare survivor from the early days of aerial combat.
