WW1 silver wristwatch with integral flip up guard |

A very rare First World War silver wristwatch with an integral flip-up mesh protective guard, in excellent condition. The front cover springs open when the button at 6 is pressed. The rear cover hinges open, both covers close firmly & evenly. The rear cover has the London import silver marks for 1917 & the case makers mark AGR. There are no inscriptions engraved on the watch. The glass is excellent as is the dial (any marks on the picture are reflections). The Swiss lever movement is running well & keeping good time. It is very rare to find a watch with the mesh guard being integral to the case, most guards were nickel & were fitted over a normal watch with the strap threaded through the lugs to keep it in place. This is the type of watch that would have been bought privately by a serving officer for use in action as very few watches were issued by the War Department in the First World War.
