Late Victorian Dimpled Cranberry Glass Decanter |

This is a highly attractive liqueur or sherry decanter, probably dating to about 1870.
The main body of the decanter is mould blown in cranberry glass. The moulded pattern consists of a series of staggered ‘dimples’, which give an overall honeycomb effect. The neck is moulded with a single hollow discoid ring. The rim is formed in three lobes, one of which forms the pouring spout. The flint glass handle extends from the rim to the ‘shoulder’ and is of ‘celery stalk’ form. The base of the decanter has a central rough pontil.
The flint glass stopper is solid and facet cut. The peg and the inside of the stopper are ground to ensure tight fitting.
The decanter has a height to the top of the handle of approximately 18.7cm, and a height to the top of the stopper of about 23.4cm.
