This is a pair of highly attractive mid Victorian hand decorated flower vases.
The vases are mould blown and taper inwards from the baser to the rim. The base is ‘stepped’ and decorated in chocolate brown, thereby resembling a wooden stand.
The body of each vase has been handpainted in enamels. The decoration is confined to the front and consists of stylised flowers, possibly chrysanthemums with foliage. The design appears to be inspired by Oriental art and is mirrored on the vases, showing that they are a matching pair.
One vase has a height of approximately 24.4cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 5.4cm and at the base of about 10.4cm. The other vase has a height of approximately 25.0cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 5.3cm and at the base of about 10.4cm.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although the smaller of the vases has a linear ‘run’ in the glass, which is a manufacturing artefact and is on the reverse and therefore does not detract from the piece in any way.
