RARE NOVELTY GLASS CIGARETTE HOLDER WITH RELIEF BIRD DECORATION |

A rare novelty cigarette holder in clear glass, the globular middle section decorated with white cane beading, the cigarette opening with a wavy edge red trail, and the body behind it with white twists. A tiny three dimensional glass bird with red wings, white body, black beak and black eyes, sits on a clear glass stump above the twists. The age and origin is a puzzle, the vendor first assumed 1950s Venetian or Czechoslovakian, however, exactly similar items found in the Lon Knickerbocker collection on the Whimsey Club website, lists them as circa 1870 and American in origin; further information welcome.

Dimensions: A little over 2¾in/7cm long.
