This is a highly unusual and beautiful example of an 18th century German ‘Schlaeger’ duelling sword.
The blade has a hexagonal cross section and a length of approximately 86.0cm. The blade on this sword has a distal taper, starting near the guard with a width of about 1.7cm and ending at the tip with a width of about 0.8cm. The sword has a total length of approximately 103.5cm. The point of balance for this sword is where the blade joins the guard. The guard is comprised of iron, overlaid with fabric, which is held in place by decorative metal work. The inner hand grip is covered in shagreen (shark or rayfish skin). There is an engraved name and possibly some other symbols, although some are not discernible. I believe that the name on the sword is ‘H. Schulz’, but it may have an ‘e’ at the end.
Condition: Very Good
Dimensions: Sword total length 103.5cm. Blade length 86.0cm.
