SHIP'S WHEEL with 8 spokes, oak with substantial brass rim on both sides. Hefty centre boss with "screw on " cap......when unscrewed reveals machined key. "Midships" cast indicator on spoke: to the left of which is a carved repair. Years of affectionate hand polishing have gifted a wonderful patina to both wood and brass. I feel this is an item from a wreck, probably 1930s/40s, as it seems to have spent the last 50 or so years ashore. In good sturdy condition but with the charm of age and use, most likely used aboard a small tug or sailing ship, certainly from a commercial vessel.
