Fabulous,19th Century Gilded French Box with Tortoiseshell and Red Glass Decoration inset into the lid. The design is based on the early 18th Century German and French Snuff boxes some of these are illustrated in the book ‘European and American Snuff Boxes 1730 to 1830′ by Clare le Corbeiller’ see plates 466 to 471. This one dates from the early 1800′s and is a magnificent piece as you can see.
The lid has a deep blue velvet lining this is missing from the base of the interior which I have left for the buyer to decide to either to reline or leave as it is. There are no cracks or splits to the tortoiseshell or the glass, the only slight damage that I can find is on the base in one of the corners where the tiniest bit of the rim in one of the corners is missing.
What more can I say about this box, it is fantastic and I have enjoyed every minute of owning it, the quality of the decoration is excellent as you can see in the photographs and it is a fine piece that would grace any collection of Antique Boxes. FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING TO ALL LOCATIONS
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: The measurements are approx 8cm, 6cm and 4cm high.
