19th Century American Pewter Flask |

An early 19th Century American Pewter Flask with a screw top. It has no maker's touchmark but American pewter was often not marked by the maker as this was not required by law. It bears some engraved wrigglework initials on one side. They are quite rubbed and the third is unreadable. The initials are: I. W. ?. It is most likely to be American from the early 19th Century as wrigglework decoration continued to be used there at that time, while having ceased in England. If it was English one would expect it to be no later than about 1700 in which case there would be touch marks. It was obviously made in two pieces because there is a seam mark around the outside. The only other markings are two faint "bulls-eye" marks in the centre of each side. If you would like a more detailed condition report or additional photographs, please don't hesitate to email me.
Condition: Fair
Dimensions: It measures approximately 4 1/2 inches(11.5 cms) in diameter across the body. Weight: Approx. 15 oz (425 grams).
