This is an excellent example of a pewter 18th Century desk standish, providing space for ink wells, pens and other writing and sealing accessories. Beginning with the lid closed, either the rear or front compartment can be opened - or both - by means of the central hinge. The tops of the end compartments can be removed. These each have four holes, for holdind pens currently in use. There is plenty of storage space. The simple design rests on four half-ball feet. Helpfully, further information is provided by the previous collector, on a typed attached note on the base - please see the photographs. This is an excellent item of pewter, evocative of writing in the 18th Century - please see the previous owner's notes.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: Approximatley 21 cm by 13cm by 5cm (from the base of the feet to the top).
