An exceptionally fine and rare large porcelain bowl made by the Minton factory around 1805. Decorated in the hand painted pattern, number 105, an oriental style design of figures standing outside a building covering the interior of the bowl. The base bears the mock Sevres mark and the pattern number, in blue. These large bowls are often described as being for punch. It would seem that the thinly potted porcelain is far too delicate for such use. Very few would survive the constant knocks delivered by a heavy porcelain or silver punch ladle. It seems more likely that they were intended for fruit or such. Whatever it's real use, this piece is a rare survivor, and has come down to us in remarkably fine condition.
