An excellent, porcelain, hand painted double handled dessert plate, by the Ridgway factory dating from around 1820. The centre picture showing a turreted building beside a river, with a lake in the distance. In each 'corner' of the plate are four buff coloured reserves containing gilt butterflies. The whole on a mazzarine ground overlaid with scale gilding and vine leaves. Unfortunately the maker is unknown, although the design and shape could be described as of Ridgway type. The only identifyng mark is the hand written pattern number, 1045, in red. Although unknown, the gilding and painting is of a very high standard.
