A Davenport earthenware plate with blue printed and overpainted floral design. Shaped rim. Printed and impressed marks on the reverse and dating to the year 1848. Made by William Davenport, Longport. Staffordshire Potteries. Impressed anchor mark with date code for 1848. Printed pattern name and Davenport with pseudo oriental seal mark. This particular pattern is very reminiscent of a Mason's Ironstone design. It is known that Davenport bought some of Charles Mason's designs at that pottery's bankruptcy sale in March 1848.
