FRANCK CHIVERS was the acknowledged master of fruit decoration during this late Victorian period. The vibrant yellow of the body of this vase was, by common consent, by far the most difficult to achieve. At just over 6" high, this is magnificent example of the outstanding quality for which Royal Worcester is held in such great esteem. Frank Chivers has signed this miniature masterpiece of apple and grapes against a floral green and blue-sky background. Of shouldered form with gilt lions head handles. Profuse gilt floral decoration surrounds the central hand painted panel. Further gilt floral decoration adorns the reverse with additional gilding to the foot, neck base and top. As if this was not sufficient, white enamelling decorates the top, the foot and the rear sides of the lion handles. This vase was never made to have a lid, top, cap or cover of any kind. Pristine, perfect and beautiful.
