Zsolnay Large Inkwell & Cover with Original Frosted Glass Well |

A remarkable Zsolnay inkwell of unusually large size and in very fine condition. The piece is rectangular with wide canted corners, almost forming it into an octagonal profile, each plane is crisply modelled in high relief with different classical historical scenes, with perhaps religious undertones. I do not recocgnise these references but I suspect they have an architectural base sourced from the area's rich heritage, both in the immediate town itself and the surrounding areas.
The pot has a reeded shoulder to a brass collar, joining the base to the domed cover, similarly reeded, and the hinge is in perfect working order. The original fitted frosted glass well, with its brass rim, is intact and undamaged. The pot is marked to base impressed Zsolnay pecs plus form no 2939.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: 8" high x 5" square at base.
