Important and magnificent pair of Inkwell and Wafer bottles in superb condition dating to 1835 by the very famous and highly collectable London Silversmith Archibold Douglas.
Both are silver gilt and date to the period of William IV who was King of England between 1830 to 1837 they are fine crisp cut glass which reflect the light beautifully. The inkwell has a hinged screw down lid which was of course essential for travel, both of the lids are finely decorated and have reeded borders with Cartouches that bear no initials.
They are both in fantastic condition as you can see from the photographs, the gilding is of the highest quality. there is tiniest nibble to one of the corners of the Wafer bottle but I only noticed this by feel. The lids bear the hallmarks for London, 1835 and the makers mark AD being Archibald Douglas, he started working in 1821 until 1850 his inkwells are highly collectable, to find a pair of this quality with cut glass decoration is rare indeed.
