Cooke & Kelvey Boxed Silver Equine Desk or Personal Items Set |

Dateline: Circa 1950s |
Item# 36600 |

A boxed set consisting of a silver money clip, letter opener and keyring chain in their original presentation case. All three pieces are embellished with a horse's head and horseshoe motif displaying the high standard of workmanship achieved by this prestigious silversmith.
The set was made by Cooke & Kelvey Silversmiths, Calcutta and Delhi, India during the 1950s. This company was founded in 1858 by Robert Thomas Cooke and Charles Kelvey and was considered to be the Asprey or Tiffany of India. Their clientele include Maharajas and Prime Ministers. The company is still in operation today – since 1946 in Indian ownership and the quality remains high.
The pieces are not hallmarked - at the time when they were made there was no centralised Assay Office for India. Silver items were bought on trust – the reputation of the silversmith would be paramount. The only marking is the stamped word: ‘SILVER’ on the back of the money clip. I have tested the pieces and they have proven to be of high-standard silver (at least sterling standard). This a set which is ideal as a sumptuous gift redolent of an earlier time.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: Money clip: 2” (5 cm) long; Letter Opener: 4 7/8” (12.5 cm) long; Keyring and Chain: 3 ˝” (8.5cm) lo Weight: Silver Wt: Approx. 1.26 oz (Troy) or 390g.
