Art Nouveau enamel at its best. Made by the eminent Birmingham silversmiths J.Cook & Son in 1902 and fully hallmarked as such. This silver and enamel inkwell was made to be used as well as pleasing to the eye, adhering to the ethos of form and function. Broad based and stable, the pot rises to a solid cantilevered hinge, which supports the beautiful enamelled lid. The rose motif of the lid encompasses the peacock enamel shades favoured by Liberty, Horner, Fenton and Hutton. A rope and dot band sits around the top of the cylinder base, on the back of which is impressed the name of the luxury goods retailer, Pearce & Sons, Leeds. A really outstanding quality example of Edwardian desk accoutrements.
