This splendid large earthenware jug was manufactured by Dunn Bennett & Co of Burslem, Staffordshire, between 1875 and 1907. The company later became part of Royal Doulton. Dunn Bennett were known for their earthenware and ironstone. Their products were of high quality, and they had retail outlets in both England and the United States.
This is a rarely found pattern named 'Imperial'. The beautifully shaped jug is decorated in Arts and Crafts style with transfer applied branches, leaves and flowers, over painted in red, yellow, brown and green. There is a pattern resembling tiny mazes around the lip and this area has unusual modelling. The handle is decorated in the same fashion as the bowl of the jug, and is attractively moulded at the top.
It is marked to the base 'DB&Co' and 'Imperial' together with Dunn Bennett & Co's 'beehive' mark.
.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: The jug is 20cm (approximately 8 inches) in height
