A signed necklace set with a central amethyst and matching amethyst drop by the famous Murrle Bennett & Co. This is a beautiful Arts & Crafts necklace of oval shape in hammered silver with rivet decoration and four cut out rectangular scrolls. The amethysts are set in gold coloured bezels, a typical feature of MB&Co's hammered Secessionist design pieces. The neck chain consists of 5 round links alternating with an oblong link and connected to the two rectangular panels decorated with scrolls. Ernst Murrle and JB Bennett who produced jewellery in Pforzheim Germany established the London-based company in 1884. MB & Co’s distinctive designs were inspired by geometric and abstract styles and their Cymric range sold through Liberty's London. The necklace has the 'MBc' maker’s monogram, and 950 Silver standard mark. Anglo-German, c.1900. This antique necklace is all original with no damage or repairs in excellent condition. Pendant Measuring: 1 5/8" Long incl Drop x 1 1/4" Wide. (43 x 27 mm). Chain 20" (56 cm). A superb example of genuine Art Nouveau Arts & Crafts English jewellery by Murrle Bennett & Co.
