A beautiful late-Victorian pink gem set soltaire ring which is claw set into 18ct Gold yellow gold. Although on first appearance, the stone looks like a ruby we believe the gemstone is natural spinel, many rubies previous to the 20th century have now been proven to be spinel, including some in the Crown Jewels! The stone has a superb sparkle and is a beautiful shade of orangy-pink and sometimes raspberry depending on the light. The stone is held securely by twelve prongs and the split shoulders have a classical scrolling design. The ring is hallmmarked Birmingham, 1898, 18ct Gold.
