This is a highly attractive cut glass wine decanter, probably Czechoslovakian in origin and dating to between the 1920s and the 1930s.
The body is of tapering form with a long neck and everted rim. The neck is cut with a series of six panels with curved upper and lower margins. The shoulder is cut to form a clear horizontal band, flanked above and below by a circumferential wedge cut. This design is repeated just above the base. The body is cut with a complex design consisting of five large criss-crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. The large diamond-shaped panel thus formed is filled with a lattice of interlocking criss-crosses. Above and below the centre of each large criss-cross is a teardrop shaped facet, flanked on its curved margin with a blaze of radiating needle cuts.
The stopper contains a central teardrop shaped bubble. The apex is cut with five facets with curved lower margins. Around its centre it is flanked with a design that matches that on the body, without the needle cutting. The base of the stopper is cut with a series of six vertical facets that curve in to form a neck just above the ground glass peg.
Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: Maximum height including stopper 36.5cm. Base diameter 8.2cm.
