DUNSTER HIGH ST. MARKET MONDAY 11TH MAY 1500 is a painting by IVAN LAPPER and is based on research into that day. The official court records (produced in part on the box) were carefully researched to produce this scene. On that day no fewer than 55 local people appeared in the Court. Remarkably 16 butchers were fined for selling "unsuitable meat" Each day saw the appearance of inspectors who carefully checked the items on sale. In the background we can see Dunster Castle. The back of the box gives a wealth of information about Dunster, its location and the factual stories. For those wanting a challenge, others keenly interested in social history or family history, this is a fascinating insight into life on that day. 500 pieces in all Made in Britain by Country House Treasures for the Exmoor National Park Authority.
