A lacquered brass compound microscope by Newton, 19th century, on a Ross type stand with 'Y' shaped foot and rack and pinion focusing, the sub stage assembly on rack work above a plano-concave mirror, 17in high, in a fitted mahogany case with drawer containing slides, three objective lenses in cases, a brass compressor, two eye pieces and a viewing slide, the box with green paper label marked 'Newton & Co, Opticians, Mathematical Philosophical and Astronomical Instruments Makers', microscope also inscribed 'Newton, 3 Fleet Street, Temple Bar, London'.
