| Ruskin (John, 1819-1900). Autograph letter signed ('J. Ruskin') on letterhead, Denmark Hill, S.E, 1st November 1869, to Miss Wardell, saying that he will look at the paintings and tell her what he can of them but doubting that they are by [J.M.W.] Turner, '. after his very early years - Turner painted no small pictures - none exist: - it is impossible - or nearly so - that any oil picture less than 2 x 3 feet should be by him', concluding that he will certify her of the matter if she cares to leave the pictures at the National Gallery addressed for him, care of Mr William Ward [1829-1908, Ruskin's assistant]', one page and two lines plus signed sentiment, written to rectos only of a four-page bifoliate sheet, 8vo.
