An 18th century Japanese lacquered metal plaque depicting King Henry VI of England, in dull and burnished takamakie, the reverse with the subject's dates, 12cm. high. *Commissioned by the head of the Dutch trading mission at Deshima, Baron Reede, in 1788. The portraits of European monarchs were probably copied from engravings in L'Europe illustre, compiled by Dreus du Radier and published in Paris, 1755-65.
